Suggestions to clean stone tops
Microfiber cloths are ideal because they hold the dirt, preventing it to be redistributed on the surface. It is advisable to wash them often in the washing machine, or replace them if needed.
- ALWAYS CLEAN WHEN THE STAIN IS FRESH.
- Do not use rough steel wools or abrasive sanding sponges.
- Never use ammonia and too much alcohol.
- It is advisable to pour chemicals on the sponge, not directly on the top surface, and spread them with circular movements, FOLLOWING SCRUPOLOUSLY THE
INSTRUCTIONS ON THE PACKAGE OR THE SPECIFICATIONS.
- It is advisable to take a preliminary test in a hidden area, before adopting a chemical treatment for the first time.
MARBLE AND ONYX TOPS
Features: Marble is a crystalline lime scale rock principally composed of calcium carbonate. Since it is a natural material, it’s normal to find chromatic variations in veins and
stains, even in the same slab. The product can change becoming as much precious and unique as it shows signs of time.
Abrasions: These tops, due to the lime scale structure, are not particularly resistant to hurts and abrasions. The tools usually used in the kitchen can damage the top scratching or cracking the surface; always use a chopping board during these operations.
Heat: Heat can let the material go opaque on the surface. Avoid to leave or put hot pots on the top, pay particularly attention to the coffee pot, ovens and iron; always use the trivet. Pay attention to ovens and other electrical appliances that produce heat because if they are not isolated in their low part they can cause during the time cracks or change the color of the tops. While cooking avoid to not let go over the edge of the hob pans, pots and grid irons, in order to avoid problems not only for the top but even for the backsplashes (for them read the paragraph dedicated to the single material).
Stains: Over time, surfaces can deteriorate and/or get stained (the stains are clearer if the color is light). Then, it is appropriate to avoid leaving cleaning products or food liquids on the surface (soaps, oil, wine, vinegar, etc.), especially, if the surface comes in contact with even little acidic products (fruits or perfumes): this can cause the aggression of the surface, causing the removal of the original look.
It is recommended to clean the surface always when the stain is still fresh. In order to reduce this risk, we treat stone material with the most modern waterproof techniques. Even the best waterproof treatment, like the one we use, is usually less effective after two or three months (the period of time can vary depending on the frequency of use). Therefore, it’s extremely important to treat your marble periodically, using the appropriate products which can be found for sale. Regarding the application, we recommend to follow scrupulously the instructions on the package, bearing in mind that the treatment does not leave the surface unharmed from acidic substances (e.g. lemon juice).
Water and vapor: Pay attention to water, it contains substances (salts, lime scales and other chemical substances) which ease the presence of stains and halos hard to remove. It’s necessary to pay attention to further water infiltrations which could damage the underneath furniture. Remove immediately excesses of water on the top. Avoid leaving half open the door of the dishwasher when it finished washing, in general avoid vapor steams on the top.
Cleaning: For the daily maintenance of the material, use the microfiber cloth, do not use products which may contain acidic substances or descaling solution. Please, always clean the surface when the stain is still fresh.
